Breathing

Breathing is automatic. Breathing awareness is learned.

Breathing

A practical training process focused on understanding respiratory movement and the relationship between breathing, rib-cage mobility, trunk organisation, posture and body awareness.

Why Work With Breathing?

We breathe continuously, but that does not mean we are aware of how the breath moves through the body. Habit, tension, posture and movement can all influence respiratory patterns.

Breathing sessions are designed to make this process more understandable and perceptible. They are not respiratory therapy and do not treat pulmonary disease.

My Approach

The first objective is observation rather than control. We notice where movement occurs, how the ribs respond, whether unnecessary tension appears and how posture changes the experience of breathing.

From there, we can practise different breathing strategies according to the training objective, including those used as preparation for hypopressive work.

What We Explore

  • Natural breathing awareness
  • Rib-cage movement
  • Diaphragm-related breathing mechanics
  • Exhalation control
  • Relationship between breathing and trunk organisation
  • Breathing in different positions
  • Unnecessary shoulder and neck tension
  • Breathing as preparation for movement
  • Breathing phases used in hypopressive practice where relevant

Breathing and the Core

The trunk is not organised by one isolated muscle. Breathing changes pressure and movement through the rib cage, abdomen and pelvic region. For this reason, breathing can be explored as part of a broader understanding of core function and movement.

This does not mean that one breathing technique is universally ‘correct’. Different tasks require different strategies.

Breathing and Posture

Posture changes the space available for respiratory movement, and breathing can change the way the trunk is organised. Exploring both together helps the client understand why a breathing exercise may feel different when sitting, standing, lying down or using a specific hypopressive position.

What a Session May Include

  • Observation of the current breathing pattern
  • Rib-cage awareness
  • Breathing in different positions
  • Controlled exhalation
  • Relaxation of unnecessary accessory tension
  • Breathing coordinated with simple movement
  • Preparation for hypopressive technique where relevant
  • Home-practice guidance

Who Is It For?

For adults who want to understand breathing mechanics more clearly, improve body awareness, prepare for hypopressive practice or integrate breathing more intentionally into posture and movement.

What You Will Learn

  • How to observe your own breathing
  • How the rib cage moves
  • How posture can change respiratory movement
  • How to coordinate breath with simple movement
  • How to use breathing as a foundation for other Training practices

Safety

Breathing exercises should not be used to self-treat unexplained breathlessness, chest pain, dizziness or other concerning symptoms. People with relevant cardiovascular or respiratory conditions should seek appropriate medical guidance before undertaking breath-hold practices.

Available Formats

The format is adapted to the training and to the client’s needs. Depending on the programme, it may be available in person, online, individually or in a small-group format. Location, duration, frequency and investment remain flexible and are confirmed according to the selected service or package.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this breathwork for emotional release?
No. The focus is respiratory awareness, mechanics, posture and movement.
Do I need to know hypopressives?
No. Breathing can be trained independently or used as preparation for hypopressive practice.
Will I be taught to breathe in only one ‘correct’ way?
No. Breathing is task-dependent. The aim is awareness and useful strategies, not a single universal pattern.
Can this be online?
Yes, some breathing education can be adapted effectively to an online format.
